Embracing Technology

1

Tech CloudThough I am not very proficient at all types of social media, I have a basic understanding of how each of the most popular forms is used to communicate. As a parent of two teenagers, I have been somewhat forced to learn. Tweets, posts, snapchat stories, pins, blogs, and other seemingly strange words have worked their way into our vernacular. It seems that only kids and the tech savvy can speak fluently in this new, social language.

Recently, Westminster Presbyterian made a giant leap into the technological world. Led by the efforts of Kathryn Dyksterhouse, our Communications Director, we have a beautiful website that is up-to-date, loaded with useful resources, and a platform for communication amongst members and friends of Westminster. In addition, we now have an app that parallels much of the website with sermons, information, scripture, a reading plan, and other useful tools.

Cassette

The reason that I am spotlighting the website and app in this blog is to invite you to use this technology. If you miss Sunday worship at Westminster, you can now easily catch up on the latest sermon while riding in your car, running a 10K, or cooking supper. It’s all good. Gone are the days of calling the church office wanting a cassette of the latest sermon. You now have direct access to the vault. Enjoy. For those of you born after 1985, this is a cassette tape. If you were born before 1960 and don’t know what this is, no worries, you have missed this technological era and there is no need to catch up now. Cassettes are practically extinct.

Please use the online church directory for your convenience. If you have been meaning to call, text, or email an encouragement to someone but didn’t know how to get in touch with them, you can now get that information without going through the church office. Emailing can be done straight from the member’s contact card. Easy. Effortless. I love it.

Use the technology for resource, convenience, and a way to connect you with others at Westminster. Contact an officer at any time. Our information on the website is there to be accessed. If you have prayer requests, a physical need, or questions/concerns, please do not hesitate to let us know. We, the members of your Session and Diaconate, are always available to serve you.

In a world that seems to be moving faster at an exponential pace, we can often lose our sense of connection with our community of believers. The calendar, monthly newsletter, Tuesday Tidings, and the Westminster Weekly are all ways to stay informed of what is happening in the lives of those at Westminster. The Westminster Weekly has a plethora of information all with the intent of including everyone in the circle of communication. Use this to prepare for worship, to pray alongside others, celebrate birthdays and anniversaries, to see what is happening at WPC between Sundays, and hear from staff.

I encourage you to explore the website and app and take advantage of what both have to offer. Embrace the technology. Stay connected. Encourage others. Share Christ.
