J C Ryle

During Christmas break, I took advantage of one of Westminster Theological Seminary’s online bookstore cyberdeal’s—J.C. Ryle’s Daily Readings: From all Four Gospels.

It is a daily devotional with a morning and evening selection for each day of the year from the Anglican bishop who lived from 1816-1900. I had discovered this years ago and had a copy in paperback that had fallen apart so I was delighted to obtain a new copy. Each reading contains a selection from one of the four gospels as well as another reading from another book in the OT or NT that complements the gospel reading. There is a page of application on the gospel reading as well as a “further thought” that offers a deeper application for daily life. Jeff and I have been using it as a devotional primarily in the morning before he goes to work. J.C. Ryle does an excellent job of focusing on the life and ministry of Jesus through the gospels and my hope is that it will not just help me learn more about Jesus but will be an instrument of deepening my relationship with Jesus and I recommend it to anyone else who wants a fuller understanding of the gospels.

I love that you and Jeff study Jesus' life and words before you start your days! Thank you for the recommendation!
