January Update

by Brad Dickey

Hello, friends! I just want to thank you for all of your support and prayers that you provided over the course of 2017. Here is a little recap of how last semester came to a close with RUF at USC.

Large Group, Fall 2017

Our campus minister, Alex Watlington, finished up his semester long series on seeing dating, relationships, and marriage through the lens of the Gospel. We started out last semester with just 5 or 6 students involved in RUF, but by God's grace, we now have about 30 students that we are ministering to, whether that be through our large group meetings, small group meetings, or one on one meetings. Some of these students grew up in church, some have never heard the Gospel in their lives, and some are just interested in learning more about Christianity and what being a follower of Jesus looks like.

Brad Dickey Jan 18-2RUF Christmas Party
We held a Christmas party for students at my apartment back in early December before all of the students left campus for Christmas break. The night consisted of decorating and eating cookies, playing Just Dance, and cheering on the Trojans in the Pac-12 Title Game

Brad Dickey Jan 18-3Student Spotlight!
This is Caleb Houser. Caleb is in his senior year at USC, and he is getting his degree in Aerospace Engineering. He is from Vancouver, Washington, and will be working as an engineer at Northrop Grumman upon graduation. Caleb has been involved in RUF for two years now, and he loves the role that RUF has played in his life at USC.  Caleb and I enjoy getting off campus and going surfing together where we get to spend time talking about our lives, our faith, and what we think God has planned for us in our future.

Brad Dickey Jan 18-4More Tailgating!
We had a RUF tailgate in November for the USC vs. UCLA rivalry game. The afternoon was again filled with eating lots of food, hanging out with friends, and playing corn hole. USC came out victorious which made the day even better.

Prayer Requests
As we begin the spring 2018 semester at USC, will you please keep a few things in your prayers:

  • Campus Involvement Fair- A few weeks ago, we set up a RUF table on campus at the USC campus involvement fair so that students could stop by and learn more about RUF. Please pray that the Lord uses this time to send students our way so that we can meet them and begin to build relationships with them.
  • Please pray that the Lord will be able to use me through one on one meetings and Bible studies to demonstrate His love for us.
  • Finally, that the Lord will continue to strengthen us and embolden us in the ministry that He has called us to!

Like I have said before, none of this would be possible if it were not for you all. I am beyond thankful for all of your prayers and support, and I am looking forward to keeping all of you updated throughout the rest of this semester. Until next time...

Soli Deo Gloria!
