Recycling at Westminster

Hi Westminster family!

I am really excited about Westminster starting a recycling program! It is a fantastic way to teach your children to be good stewards of God’s land. I applaud Westminster for taking the challenge of switching up habits, which we all know is tough to do!

There are two bins outside the by the carport - one is just for bottles and cans and the other is just for paper so make sure you read those stylish labels. The two things that will be very easy to recycle at Westminster will be the church bulletins and the soda bottles from Sunday school hour. However any plastic with the label #1 and #2 can go in the bottles and cans bin as well as aluminum and steel (soup) cans. Paper is pretty easy to tell if it is recyclable; if you can rip it you can recycle it. That makes it extra fun for the kids; they can rip the paper, crumple it up and then play “hoops” with the bin. Unfortunately, styrofoam and the soft plastic are not recyclable. You are welcome to frown with me now. However if you do accumulate at lot of plastic grocery bags you can return them to Wal-mart and they do recycle them into fake wood benches!

We are offering curbside service for residents in North Greenwood, but if you live in the county feel free to bring your recycling to one of our four drop off locations or these bins at church! There are some flyers in the church office with more details about what is recyclable and where you can take it. I would love to host a field trip at the recycling center if you are interested. I promise you will learn something and have fun. Thank you for making the difference! I look forward to collecting your recycling each month.

Signing off,
