The Gift of Not Being Needed

1
by Sonya Anthes

There are roughly about 7 billion people in the world and not a single one is even remotely close to being you. The Lord created you and gave you a purpose. You might say, “I don’t know what my purpose is.” or “My gifts are not as important as his.” or “I wish I could be more like her.

The fact is, you are not supposed to be like her or him. You are exactly you with your own God-given gifts. Now that we all agree on that, let’s get something straight. God does not need you. That’s right. He never will. No matter how much you want Him to need you, it will never happen. You might say “Oh no, Sonya, you are wrong. He needs me to teach Sunday School or He needs me to give that homeless man at Wal-Mart a bottle of water and some food, He needs me to____.” Whatever it is, He doesn’t need you for any of that.

all the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, and he does according to his will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand or say to him, “What have you done?” Daniel 4:35 (ESV)

He wants you! He wants you to want to serve Him. He wants you to teach that Sunday School class because you love Him so much that you want to share that love with others and teach them about Him. He wants you to give that homeless man at Wal-Mart a bottle of water and some food because you love Him and want to show His love to all people. He wants you so badly that He gave up everything for you! He doesn’t need you to do anything. He wants you to obey His commands. He wants you to love like Him. He wants you to use your given gifts and blessings for His glory. He CHOSE you! He placed you in this world at exactly the right time. Isn’t it an honor to be loved for something you never did and wanted for something you will never be needed for?! His love is infinite and His ways are many and He is already accomplishing His will by using you! He wants you to love Him. He wants you to do good works. He wants you to send those words of encouragement to a friend. He wants you to teach the Good News. He wants you to talk to Him. He WANTS you.

“for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.” Philippians 2:13 (ESV)

“And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.” 1 Corinthians 13:2 (ESV)

I was listening to a podcast a few days ago and I can’t remember what it was about but here was one quote out of the whole message that stood out to me and I think that it applies here, “When you change your thoughts, you change your life.”

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2 (ESV)

When you remember that you are needed by people and wanted by God, and not the other way around, tasks become more joyful and less of an obligation. Don’t let your relationship with God become that obligation. You need Him. He wants you.

Preach it sister!! This was so encouraging!! "You need Him. He wants you." Amen! You are one of the most encouraging, Gospel-centered friends I've ever had. I'm so thankful God chose us to use our gifts together here in Greenwood!:)
